Privacy Policy
Overview
Necessary is a household spending app. It uses the information you provide to create your account, sync your household, show your spending, and deliver the features you request. Necessary does not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
Information Necessary processes
Account information includes your email address, profile name, and account identifier. Household data can include its name, members, invitations, pay periods, category settings, merchant rules, budget additions, transaction dates, amounts, merchants, account names, review decisions, and the member associated with a transaction.
A device token is stored when you enable push notifications. An import token and transactions waiting to upload can be stored on your device when you use Apple Wallet with Shortcuts or the advanced transaction import API.
How information is used
This information is used to authenticate you, sync data across devices, share household information with household members, calculate spending summaries, process transaction imports, prevent duplicate imports, and send requested transaction-review notifications.
Service providers
Supabase provides authentication, database, and server functions. Logo.dev receives a merchant name or website domain when Necessary requests an optional merchant logo. Apple provides platform services such as push notifications, widgets, Shortcuts, Apple Wallet automation, and App Store distribution. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies.
Sharing within a household
Members of the same household can view the household’s transactions and settings, including the member associated with a transaction. Invite only people you trust.
Your choices
You choose whether to enable notifications, category budgets, merchant logos, and Apple Wallet automation. You can edit merchant settings and review decisions, delete transactions and budget additions, or disconnect an Apple Wallet automation in Shortcuts.
Retention and deletion
Information remains available while your account or household requires it. You can delete individual transactions and budget additions in Necessary. You can permanently delete your account from Settings.
If you are the only household member, account deletion also deletes the household and its data. If other members remain, household ownership transfers to a remaining member and your membership is removed.
Security
Necessary uses Apple Keychain for authentication and transaction-import tokens, an app group container for pending offline transactions and widget data, and encrypted HTTPS connections for network requests. No system can guarantee absolute security.
Children
Necessary is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes and contact
